Life at the Table

Life at the Table is a podcast for people who want stronger families, deeper faith, and honest conversations about the things that shape everyday life.

Hosted by Alicia and David Templeton, each episode explores marriage, parenting, leadership and spiritual growth with honesty, humor, and biblical perspective.

Our mission is simple: build a bigger table, a place where grace is practiced, questions are welcome, and people grow closer to Jesus and each other.

Pull up a chair.  There's always room at the table.

Sourdough Era

In this weeks episode, we talk about sourdough.  And in true Alicia fashion, she finds an awesome way to tie the process that sourdough takes and apply it to our lives. Just like sourdough, life takes patience.  Allow God to work in you what he wants.  "Stop and smell the roses" comes to mind as David breaks down the thought of applying this process to his own life.  This episode truly is a glimpse into what we talk about around our table.  Its biblical, nerdy and completely acceptable for a gluten free diet!REFERENCE:James 1:4Thank you for listening to Life at The Table.  The best way to share this show is sharing it with someone you love.  You can also like, rate and leave a review.  Visit us at hartstudios.org for more information!

In this longer-than-normal episode, we learn that God can love us far beyond our failures.  We discuss Peter and his denial of Jesus and Jesus loving Peter anyway.  We give a detailed look into David's testimony, specifically how despite his best efforts, he could not disqualify himself from God's love for him or the plans God set in motion when he was just 15 years old.  We look at God forming both Peter and David in the darkest of times by setting pride aside and becoming dependent on God.  Alicia and David talk about the importance of having honest people who mean well surround you and allowing God to give you boldness to do what He wants you to do.
Reference:Luke 22John 21If you've been in a dark place, feeling like God couldn't be farther from where you are.  If anxiety, turmoil or fear reside in your heart where the peaceful grace and mercy of the Lord should be, consider turning back, you'll find Jesus there waiting for you with open arms. Let Me Fix That

In this episode we discuss Alicia's deep seeded desire to fix every problem she sees in the moment they present themselves.  We also discuss the David's approach to problems and how he takes the time (sometimes too much time) to make sure he gets it right.  We discuss how neither approach is wrong but how its important to be aware of your tendencies so growth can occur.  We witness in real time as David responds to Alicia after taking a few moments to consider his response.  So whether you are a fixer or a thinker always remember that there is often more than one way to do things and the other ways are not always wrong, just different.  REFERENCEEcclesiastes 7:29Thank you for joining us on Life at the Table (Do it Dave's way).  If this has been something that has brought you joy, insight or a simple nod of agreement, please consider sharing us with someone special in your life! In this episode we discuss what its like to be enjoying a moment while someone else is carrying it.  We talk about the weight that people carry and how that can impact how they view a moment.  From the weight of our past to the future and all the burden and weight in between, we share a story from VERY early on in our marriage. Our honeymoon. We talk about what that phrase "Pull your weight" looked like in that moment and how easy it is too view life through our own experiences and preferences. We remember that its important to slow down and enjoy the baby sharks in your life, because sometimes, those things may never come around again. REFERENCE:

Earthquake?

We're back!! After two weeks without a show, we are finally back with a brand new episode of Life at The Table! This entire episode is about the delusion that exhaustion and sickness can cause.  In this semi-shortened episode (we are still a little sick after all) we talk about what is was like to try to push through an approaching sickness to record a new episode.  We soon realized that "nothing good ever happens after 2AM, Ted" From trying to record and hearing, seeing and feeling an earthquake and judging it's strength based on the water in the toilet moving ever-so-slightly, we learn that sometimes its important to rest.

In this week's longer-than-usual episode, David and Alicia talk about what it means to be intentional about showing up for your spouse and your kids.  With a lens focused around coming home from a long day of work, they talk about how important it is to put what happens at work down so you can come home fresh and ready to be the spouse or parent you were meant to be-not the ones bringing home soggy french fries.
Alicia talks about the story of "the Work Tree" and David shares how he uses it daily and the change it has sparked in not only him but his family also.
Don't bring home soggy french fries, bring home the bacon.

Welcome back to Life at the Table! In this week's episode, David and Alicia discuss who they are in the small moments.  They talk about how people can sometimes unknowingly show who they are in the smallest and simplest of moments.  They talk about the diversity of how the people in their house handle sicknesses, what waiting in line at the store looks like and how they react in traffic.
David realizes his need to "curb" his road rage while Alicia writes her goodbye notes from the cold she had last week. All while tying it up in true "Life at the Table" fashion with a verse from Luke.

In this episode, Alicia talks about the way she used to prepare for conversations. David and Alicia also discuss the way that they have grown in how they view communication, its importance, and the way it is best delivered (from their experiences of course).
This episode extended far beyond the intent that was made but listen while David and Alicia learn more about improving communication in their own lives as they talk about communicating clearly.
Just say the thing, be kind and direct and take time to care about people.
Clear communication is kind.
