Life at the Table

Life at the Table is a podcast for people who want stronger families, deeper faith, and honest conversations about the things that shape everyday life.

Hosted by Alicia and David Templeton, each episode explores marriage, parenting, leadership and spiritual growth with honesty, humor, and biblical perspective.

Our mission is simple: build a bigger table, a place where grace is practiced, questions are welcome, and people grow closer to Jesus and each other.

This week, David and Alicia talk about their preparation for the new school year to start.  They start with briefly reminiscing about the summer fun and the food the kids consumed while on break.  Then they discuss their routines for school.  More than just the wake up and go to sleep things but the things that make them and their kids look at life a little brighter.  From asking the kids intentional, thoughtful questions to encouraging them to look at the happier things in life.  Alicia and David remind us to enjoy each day that they have and share how they are teaching their kids to do the same.  The beginning of the school year can be stressful and a little crazy but its up to you how you decide to embrace each day with your kids, friends, parents or peers.

We're back again, we missed you all last week.  In the episode this week, we talk about the people around your table.  New friends, old friends and of course, family.  We talk about assigned seats at the table, favorite holiday foods and how important it is to ask questions that get people talking.  There are many things that make us who we are and a large part of that is the communities that we build.

This week, we talk about the importance of showing up.  We share about our journey to realizing the importance of being present with the people around you.  David talks about the importance of being "interruptible" and how sometimes those small interruptions can be unforgettable moments.
Alicia talks about how the cost of being present is free and she's honest with the fact that she continues to learn and reflect on how she can improve on being present for the ones she loves.
We discuss how Jesus made himself interruptible despite his disciples not always understanding.  The example that comes to mind is the woman in the crowd full of people who just reached up to touch the cloak of Jesus (Luke 8:43-48)
Ask yourself this question this week. Am I interruptible?  Because what if this interruption is actually the most important part of the day?

In this week's episode, we finish up the vacation conversation with some of the funny lines and moments that we got to experience.  We learned that even while on vacation, it matters who your spending your time with. We talk about the fun and the laughs that were had just by being with people who we've built intentional relationships with. Remember that when you build an intentional community, even things like vacation and grocery trips feel natural.

This week, we talk about the lessons our parent taught us by just living their life.  We can say with certainty that our parents lifestyle matched what they taught.
Alicia talks about what the commitment to caring and compassion can do and how her parents taught her that through the animals they brought onto the farm.  David talks about the consistent patience both of his parents showed constantly through gardening and raising many kids in one house, which David now naturally portrays regularly (even if quicksand hasn't been the nemesis he thought he would need his patience for).Thank you for pulling up a chair and joining us around the table.  The best way you can support us is by liking the Life at the Table, sharing us with someone you love and giving us a 5 star rating.  For more information about Life at the Table and who we are, check us out at hartstudios.org

This week, we focus in a little on David's personal motto:  "instructions are optional."  We look at a handful of examples that shows David's refusal to allow instructional pages or directions to tell him what to do.  We break down what can happen when we decide to ignore the instructions, including making things increasingly more difficult for yourself. We hear talk more about a topic that is popular among us.  "Dave be Different"  and Alicia talks about witnessing this specific Dave be Different moment live and in person.  In this episode, David nearly adopts a new motto. As usual, we look into what the bible says about the topic and this week we visit a verse from Proverbs.  REFERENCE:Proverbs 12:15Thank you for listening to Life at the Table! In this week's episode, we talk about the emotional weight we place on things. From wedding rings to baseball tickets, we see just how much value we put into stuff; which sometimes makes us think that the stuff has more value than the memory or the moment they are connected to. Alicia talks about (David) losing her wedding ring and how she grieved it when she (David) lost it but realized that the ring didn't hold the moment, the memories or the feelings but it was just a symbol of them.  We look at what Jesus says about earthly possessions and tie it together with our personal experiences. REFERENCE:Matthew 6:19-20Thanks for joining us for Life at the Table.  If you've been one to pull up a chair and join us around our table, please leave a review, give us a 5 star rating, like us wherever you get your favorite podcasts or share us with a friend.  For more information, visit us at hartstudios.org.

This week, Alicia and David talk about influence again but with a little twist. We look into the importance of monitoring the influence that other things have on your life.  David and Alicia remember people and examples in their own lives that have shown positive influence just by the way that people live their life. David and Alicia discuss the difference that 1 degree of bad influence can have in your life.  From "Lord of the Rings" references to real-life circumstances, David and Alicia breakdown the ways people (and things) can have influence, often unintentionally.REFERENCEJames 3:16Thank you for joining us for "Life at the Table" If you're enjoying our conversation, the best way to support us to rate the show with a 5 star rating, leave a comment and share us with someone you love.  We look forward to seeing our table grow.  For more information, visit us at hartstudios.org.
